Significance of Determination Methods on Shear Modulus Measurements of Fujian Sand in Cyclic Triaxial Testing

It has long been known that the hysteresis loops of sand under cyclic loading gradually become asymmetric with increase strain amplitudes, but a symmetrical loop is widely assumed in current practice. Despite several methods which have proposed recently to consider irregularities, previous research lacked quantitative study on effects determination shear modulus G and reduction curve G/Gmax. The primary objective evaluate uncertainties associated measurements introduced by four methods. Reconstituted specimens prepared at three relative densities are tested using strain-controlled triaxial tests, various effective confining pressures. results terms G/Gmax increasing presented, following difference quantification calculated caused methods, Gmax definition cycle number. show may differ significantly for same loop, maximum percentage change 40~50%. aggravated influence low pressure highlights careful consideration asymmetrical large strains warranted.
